August
24th"More Cowbell At Pennisons
| |
Spare Parts
rocked the casa last night at Pennison's and we had a great crowd. Thanks
to all of you who came out. It was great to see so many old
friends and meet some of our new MySpace friends. For those
of you who missed it, we premiered two new songs. one was another
original song written by Mike called "Living Without
You" and the other was a song written by Dan's
buddy Sugar Dave Hale from Austin called "Bad As You Wanna
Be". This song features Dan's smooth saxophone.
Linda even pulled out the old cowbell for this one and it was
funkadelic! John Hammond ran sound and there is nothing like
a Spare Parts gig tweaked by John. He knows his stuff!
It was awesome to be back on the stage at this favorite
Copperfield hangout and we hope to be back soon. Stay tuned
for more dates!

August 14th Concert
in The Park
We had a great
time in Deer Park for the Concert in the Park series. It was
great to see so many people with their pets in the audience.
The weather held out for us this time and we really enjoyed playing with
the breeze blowing in our hair, (except for Tom who enjoyed the
breeze on his bare noggin) under the almost full moon. Special thanks
to the City of Deer Park, Charlie Sandberg, Recreation Supervisor, Super
Sound Guy, Moe Mata and to all of you who came out to party with
Spare Parts. Hope to see you soon.

| August 9th WOW What a
Party Last Night! |
What
a great party last night at Rodeo Mexican Restaurant! The
First Annual August Birthday Fiesta was groove-a-licious.... Great
Friends, Margaritas, Dancing and Mexican food. What more
could you ask for? We had so much fun and enjoyed our
special guests, John Douglas who sat in on drums so Dale could do
some Birthday dancin, Jeff Ball who sat in ..s and Kevin Gallemore
who serenaded us with Garth Brooks and The Eagles. Thanks to
all of you who kicked up your heals and got down with us. It
was hot (It felt like it was around 100 degrees out on that
patio)... but man we had a blast! Happy Birthday to
Dale, Steve, Paige, Carter, Kevin, Christine & Jeff. Thanks
for inviting Spare Parts to share in your birthday
festivities!

| July 19, 2008 Great Gig at
The Sandbar- Special thanks to Mike's sister Mary!!! |
|
We had a fantastic time as
usual at the Sandbar down in Clear Lake Shores. We had a
great turnout and made some new friends. This was our first
show with Dale Bankston and he rocked the house. As usual,
the requests for songs we have never played before were thrown at
us and in SPB usual fashion we took a stab at it and it was pure
funk. Mike called his sister Mary in New Jersey to look
up lyrics so that we could play (of all songs) "Strokin".
Have you ever listened to the words of that song?
Let's just say that we won't ever play that song at any family
friendly gigs! Thanks to Mary for
exercising her Google skills and helping us out. We'll
be back at the Sandbar on Saturday August 16th.

June 27, 2008- Abbey Pub
and Great Sax
Man did we have a blast and it was great to see so many
old friends. Dan Carpenter made his
official debut as the new SPB saxophonist. Is he awesome or
what!!! Many thanks to the Abbey Pub and to all of you who made it
out to see us. We also want to thank Dan Klotz from the
Spiffingtons for referring us. The club was happy and want us back
soon. Thanks again to all the SPB faithful who came out and showed their
support! You guys ROCK.
June 25, 2008- Thanks to
the Howling Coyote-We Will Miss You |
|
We are sad to say that we won't be
at the Howling Coyote Saturday, July 5th as was posted on our
calendar.
Unfortunately, the HC closed it's doors. Thank you so much to Mit
and Laura and the great staff there. They provided a great place
to play and listen to live music. We will truly miss this venue
as I am sure that all our dear friends, fans and fellow musicians will. Best
wishes to our Howling Coyote Friends. |
June 20, 2008 SPB &
Clear Channel Radio "New" :
|
Our original song, What if
Tomorrow Never Comes was accepted by Clear Channel Radio and is now
being played on NEW. What is New? It is an online and on-air platform
that exposes our music to more than 10 MILLION PEOPLE PER MONTH on radio
station web sites. We will be competing against other artists to climb
to the top of the NEW! charts. By increasing our plays, it increases the
odds that local radio station Program Directors will hear us and play us
on the air. The more FULL LENGTH plays we get, the higher we go on the
charts. So...please Click on the clearchannel link below, listen and
help us get some radio play! You can listen as much as you want (hint

14, 2008 Hope Life & Dreams:
|
| We had a great time on Saturday night.
Boy was it a hot one! Dan Carpenter made his debut with SPB and he is
all that! He is one smooth sax dude and we are so happy to have him as
the newest Spare Parts Guy! It was great sharing the spotlight
with our good friends and cousins, Just Got Lucky. Thanks to all of
you who came out and made this annual event a success along with the great
folks at The Woodlake pub! Happy 9th
Birthday to Dallas Foster who celebrates 9 years with his donated heart on
June 30th.

May
31, 2008 Howling Coyote
Thank
You.... Thank You...... Thank You.......We had a great time last night at
the Coyote. We had so many friends come out and the energy level was
awesome. We were feeling the love. Special Guest, saxophonist
Rickey Ford aka "Mr. Saxophone" played with us and he was on
fire. A shout out to Dallas Foster from Just Got Lucky who
came up and sang with us after I put him on the spot. Another shout
out to Dale Bankston from the CFCC praise band who graced the stage and
played a song with us on the drums. He'll be filling in for John
Prince in Deer Park for the Concert in the Park festivals in July and
August.
Special
thanks to all of you who came out and partied with us ALL NIGHT LONG and
to Laura and Mit from the Howling Coyote as well as Leon, Dennis, Kit Kat
and the rest of the exceptional staff there.

Original
Song "What if Tomorrow Never Comes"
The
full version of our original song is posted. Hope you like it.
It was written by Mike and recorded and engineered by Tom who of course
also plays a mean keyboard. The saxophone solo is none other than
Mr. Cameron Scott and the trumpet is played by Jim Brady. Hope you
enjoy!

May

Thanks
to everyone who ventured down to the Sandbar in Kemah on May 9th. We
had a great time. The club loved us and we have booked addtional
dates.
Special
thanks to Greg Norton who did a great job filling in for Marco on bass.
This was last minute and he stepped up and hit a home run. Thanks
again Greg!

13, 2008 Totally Texas Festival
Boy
wasn't Saturday beautiful? It was a great day for the annual Totally
Texas Festival in Deer Park. Next time I hope we aren't down wind from the
funnel cakes. It was too tempting not to have one of those yummy
fried dough delights! Thanks so much to everyone who made it out.
Hope you had fun We also want to give a special shout out to Cindy &
Paul Byron for taking pictures and video.

soon.

| September
2007 - We had a huge turn out for the Howling
Coyote gig. Thanks to everyone who came out. We had a
blast and were very happy to see some of you who we hadn't seen in a
while. Big shout out to the SPB faithful, your presence is always
appreciated.
May
26, 2007 - Special Shout out to the folks at the Howling
Coyote. We played there in April, had a blast and we had a great
time once again. Hopefully we will be back there soon. We
especially enjoyed Diamond Jim Brady and his little horn. He is
always a welcome "sit in dude". We are going to take some
time off this Summer to relax, spend time with the families, work on some
originals and maybe even learn some new stuff. Hope you have a great
Summer. As always we'll keep you posted when were out and about.
Mar
13, 2007 - St Paddy's Day is almost upon us, why don't we spend it
together at Birraporetti's
downtown? The food is great, the beer will be flowin, it's time to get
your Green on! Just a quick update on the original project - we are
actually recording songs! We have one that is near complete, two more in
progress and some additional tunes that I haven't shown the band yet.
Watch this space for more info, we'll post a snippet of the first song
after we record some Love Goddess vocals. I'm hoping we will be adding
them to the show soon. If that wasn't enough to get you going, check out
the recent postings on the Calendar page - we have a show in April at the
Howling Coyote, and will be rocking the Totally Texas Festival once again
(thanks John P and Charlie!). Be still my (Irish) beating heart!

22, 2007 - OK, it's been awhile. Sorry, I never go to my own website,
so I don't notice when it's out of date. But, I'm fixing it now. In fact,
the site is getting and overhaul in the very near future, so stay tuned
for new stuff - pics, new music and more - details below. Just so you
know, the great John Hammond finally listened to his body when it said
"No Mas", and he played his last gig with us at the Texas
Junction just before Christmas. It was a sad night indeed; there is none
finer, and I always feel like I play a little better whenever he is
around. John will probably be working in another capacity, maybe as a
sound tech, but he will always be one of us. John Prince has stepped in
again, and will anchor the drum chair for now. I have to tell you about a
party we played over the holidays, with the great folks at Legacy
Learning Center. This soirée was held at a local Copperfield
restaurant and Tequila bar, Romero's
Las Brazas, and I can assure you, these folks put the F-U-N back in
F-U-N-K-Y!. Can you say "Open Bar"? There is one serrape that is
no longer suitable for use in a family establishment, that's all I am
prepared to say. What happens in Las Brazas STAYS in Las Brazas! SPB
also played a four night engagement at Birraporettis downtown over the New
Years holiday, and New Years Eve was a blast! We had many friends stop in
to say hello and hang out at a very swanky venue - Sue-baby and entourage,
Wallace and family, my man Steve (who gave me a very cool SRV pendant that
stays close to my heart), Al and Lydia, Friends from Sterling and the old
Republic Bank, Mom and Dad, and one very intense guy who stared at me for
an hour or so on New Years Eve (I guess he liked my Strat?). Guess What?
SPB is finally getting their all-original project off the ground.
We have about 4 or 5 songs written, and we are in the process of
recording the songs, rehearsals to start soon. We'll probably have a CDs
worth of material ready around April, and a few showcase gigs to show them
off. More gigs to follow soon at Birraporettis; meanwhile, we'll be at R
& R Sportsbar this Friday night the 26th down in Friendswood. Come
on down, ya heah? |
| Dec
26, 2005 - Happy Holidays to all our friends from Tom, Marco John,
Mike and Linda. We had a great party season this year with our friends at Atlas
Comfort Systems, American Express and The
Right Bank. Many thanks to those that also helped make it possible,
our good friend Troy Gaillete for filling in on drums, the staff at the
Grisby Grill for taking care of us and getting us fed and the incomparable
Larry Huff, sound tech extraordinaire. We also managed to fit in a few
club dates, and have more coming up in the new year. Be sure to come out
and get in on the new ladies T-shirts, baby
blue and very form fitting! Check out the Calendar for
details, we will be venturing down south to Angleton for a date at the
Texas Junction, and will play at Uncle
Alberts for the first time in quite a while! Thanks to Lonnie Posey at
Houstons Live Music
for keeping us busy... |
| June
12, 2005 - We had a great time over at Sports N More last weekend, and
saw some old friends that haven't been out in a while - a big shout out to
Sue-Baby, Dallas, David and Deb, Alex and Susan, Barbara, Al and Lydia,
Linda's Mom and Dad and the Forty and Over Club too! They were celebrating
Linda's Dads b-day, and Susan grabbed him and proceeded to cut the rug to
the amazement of the crowd. Then we gave Linda a break and let her dance
with her Dad to the strains of "Fly Me To The Moon", in case
anyone doubts we have some range...Special thanks to Steve and
Christine, Danielle and Danni for making us feel very welcome, we'll be
back there on Sat July 9th. Also, thanks to the great Larry Huff for
making it sound so good.
I got a call from a fabulous sax player I
met over at The Howling Coyote,
Cameron Scott of the Search
Party Band. It seems they need a fill in guitarist for June the 18th
at Oz Bar. Well, that just happens to
be Linda's birthday weekend, so we are inviting everyone to come out and
see me and the Search Party Band and celebrate with us. The rest of the
SPB has the night off, but the joint will be rockin', and the Love Goddess
likes to be surrounded by friends on her special day. |
| June
2, 2005 - It's about 95% humidity in H-town today, summer is here, whoopee!
Wait, didn't we have a few days of spring? Hmmm, maybe I missed it. Don't
fear kiddos, rumors of our demise are greatly exaggerated. SPB is back in
action this weekend on the NW side at Sports N More, located at 9740
Barker Cypress Road, This is a new venue for us, so let's mobilize in
force and wear the colors with pride! Special shout out to Tiffany at
Houston Sigma Technologies (dat girl can dance!) and our great friends at
Scholl Forest Industries (Thanks Ashley :-), those folks know how to
party! |
| April
3, 2005 - Wazzup! You may be wondering what's going on, and why you
haven't seen us lately. Life has a way of getting in the way of things
sometimes, and everyone in SPB has a life! Marco is busy raising his first
child (who will be a year old this June), Linda and I have been getting
ready for our oldest to graduate, John is working full time again and Tom,
well, Tom is just Tom (just kidding, his job has a way of torpedoing him
from time to time, so he stays pretty busy). But don't worry, we are
coming back April 16th at the Totally
Texas Festival in Deer Park (Hi Mikey :-). This will be a special
event for me because my other band, Sacred
Ground, will also be on the bill. Sacred Ground is working on their
first CD, and we will be playing some of our original songs for the first
time in public. So look for Spare Parts to start at 2:00 pm and play until
3:30, then Sacred Ground will take it from 4:00 - 6:00. SPB has a few
other private parties in April, but we'll be back in club land real soon.
SPB is also working on a recording project to help launch the Big Band
concept that we've been playing with for a few months. It's the same SPB
you love, but with another guitarist, vocalist and horn section. Watch
this space for news and new demos |
| Dec
13, 2004 - Well, we have almost made it through the party season, 3
down, 2 to go. We spent last weekend with our good friends from Atlas
Comfort Systems at their shindig at Inwood Forest Country Club, then it
was out to the Woodlands with the Woodlands Operating Company on Saturday
night. We had a great time and the Woodlands folks really know how to make
us feel welcome. We had a special guest, saxophonist Rod Collins, who
joined us for the show Saturday night and took a few soulful turns most
notably on "Moondance" and "Who's Cryin' Now?". The
highlight of the show was a beautiful rendition of "Unchained
Melody"; Rod really brought down the house with that one. Who knows,
maybe we can turn him into a full time Part. Production was provided by
Surf Sound and Lights and the MFT himself, Terry Davidson, was at the
helm. Special thanks to Billie from Atlas and Jill from the Woodlands,
it's always good to play for friends. Speaking of friends, why don't you
grab yours and head out to the Hideaway
this Saturday Night for the SPB Christmas Party? The Pink Ladies will be
out in force, and new recruits will be accepted. This will be the last gig
for 2004; we will be taking some time off to recharge and get back in the
deep groove for 2005 so doncha miss this show! |
| Nov
10, 2004 - Where does the time go? It seems like just
yesterday we played at Scholl Forest and Pennisons, and sure enough, we
did it again! As always, the lovely and talented Ashley was on hand to
make us feel welcome, and with Toro and the Texan Cheerleaders, how can
you go wrong? The next night found us over at Pennisons where a strange
thing happened. Well, maybe not strange but fun nonetheless. We just got
some new Pink girly-t tank tops and were giving
them out to all the lovely ladies that danced with us. Well, rather than
go into the ladies room some of them decided to change on the dance floor.
Being comprised of 80% red-blooded American males, the SPB was in no
position to argue. We decided to call them the Pink Ladies, and you can
become one too! All you have to do is dance with us on stage and we will
hook you up. Join us at The Hideaway this
Friday Nov 12 and join the club! |
| May
5, 2004 - Hey kids, time flies when you're havin' fun!
We got to see some old friends and meet some new ones in the last few
months. We finished up March with a private soiree with KB Homes
(Hey guys, we're in HERE!). It was a lot of fun and kinda' intimate in the
Blue Cat Lounge at Jillian's and the burgers were great.
Next stop, the Totally Texas festival in Deer Park hosted by
our good friend, John Prince from Mix96.5. We even received
a plaque from the city for devoted service, that was really an honor! Our
first award! A few weekends later we were out on the southwest side with Houston
Sigma Technologies for a crawfish boil and fish fry. Those guys really
had a light hand with the fryer, and the catfish was
mmmmmgetyohandsawayfrommyface'foyouloseafinger! We met the lovely and
talented Tiffany who danced most of night and walked away with a
limited edition SPB T-shirt. Last week found us once again at Scholl
Forest Industries with the beautiful Ashley, megababe Amber
and our host, Ward Scholl - oh yeah, there were some Houston
Texan cheerleaders and Toro himself; I am READY FOR SOME
FOOTBALL! The cherry on the top came Saturday night when we rocked Pennison's
once again. We haven't played there in a long time, special thanks to Bonnie
and staff and Lonnie P who made it all possible. As it was, it
shall ever be! We got to use the Concert PA and boy, did it sound beefy!
When people ask me where the money goes, now I can point to it with
pride, special thanks to Terry Davidson for help, counseling and a
deep discount on RCF speakers! Don't miss SPB at |
| February
9, 2004 - I know, I know, a new year has come and no
updates for a long time! What can I say, I'm Richie Scarlet (jus kiddin'
Tom!), no, really, I just got a 47" Widescreen High Definition
Surround Sound Home Theater and have been somewhat inclined to stay on my
couch! If you don't have High Def, GET IT! It's worth the extra $10 bucks
a month. Wait a minute, if you had that you'd never come to see us, so
scratch that!
Well, here it is: We have some gigs coming
up in March; the anniversary bash at the French Quarter Market Grill (this
will be our third year, Happy Anniversary Fred and Janice!) and a gig at
one of our favorite venues, Sam's Boat at the Fountains. Is it a club, is
it a restaurant? It's both, come and see for yourselves. The food is
great, the band is hot, the staff is cool (Hi Alicia!) and the beer is
cold. If you look closely you'll see our friends Texan Scott and his very
lovely wife Karen shaking what they got, DON'T
MISS IT! |
| August
5, 2003 - What a weekend! Last Friday night found us at Sullivan's
steakhouse; this time the AC was blowin' cold but the band was red hot.
Big John Hammond
made a triumphant comeback after a lengthy layoff; he is feeling better
and moving around a bit more sprightly these days. One very special shout
out/thank you to John
Prince, John
Hammond's extremely capable fill in. JP came in with no rehearsal and
played all of our songs great; you'll probably see more of him in the
future. WE LOVE
YOU JP! Saturday
night we played at Sam's Boat at the
Fountains, it was cool and breezy on the patio. Special thanks to Martin
and his staff at Sam's and to
Alicia who taught
me how to hold two drinks in one hand - skills required for the good life,
no doubt! Before the show I had a very humbling experience with a younger
member of the audience (he was about 7 or 8). As I was loading in we had a
brief conversation that went something like this:
Kid - Are you in the
band?
Me - Yep, I sure am!
Kid - (eyeing me
suspiciously) Have you ever been on TV?
Me - (with
confidence and pride) Yep, sure have!
Kid - (even more
suspiciously) Are you famous?
Me - (somewhat
dejectedly) Nope, I'm not famous.
Kid - (smiling
sweetly) BYE!
Even a child knows when to
bug out; if you're not famous, speak to the hand! We'll be
out again at the Daiquiri Factory on Richmond on Aug 23, fruity drinks and
seafood on the patio, SPB rockin the casa, does
it get any better than this? I don't think so! |
| June
23, 2003 - SPB finally made it back to the Daiquiri Factory, after a
long layoff. We had a great time on the deck with the usual suspects; many
thanks to Greg, Holly (from Miami FLA) and the great staff at the Daiq -
they really know how to make you feel welcome! As some of you may know,
our drummer John Hammond has had some health problems over the last month,
forcing him off the stage and behind the mixing board (for now). Filling
his spot for a spell is John
Prince, radio personality from The New
Mix 96.5 right here in H-Town. Don't worry, John Prince is a heckuva
drummer and will do a great job for us. Look for the new John Hammond
sometime in August. Next stop, Dukes Original
Roadhouse on Sat June 28, BE THERE! |
| May
15, 2003 - What a show at Sullivans! The non stop disco dance party
rolls on, last Friday night the house was burnin' up; well, partly because
one of the AC compressors was out, mostly because all the beautiful people
were shakin their respective groove things. Special shoutout to our
friends Shelia the Server Queen, Eric and Ron (all the way from Holland!),
the LAT Krista (our personal Canadian snow bunnie), Troy the Soundguy for
making us sound great and Jimmy for giving us a chance.. Next stop, The
Elbow Room, also look for upcoming shows at the Daiquiri Factory and Sams
Boat - THERE YA GO! |
| April
28, 2003 - Oops, we did it again! Last Thursday marked the annual
Scholl Forest Spring Fling. Thanks to Ashley and Ward Scholl for inviting
us once again. Usually the stump the band contest starts a bit later in
the evening, but this time they stared early so it was a real musical free
for all! The upside is SPB realizes that "Hey, we can add that one to
the song list!" Thanks for helping us out. Saturday night found us
back at Duke's Original Roadhouse; we'll back
there again Friday May 2 for the start of the "Quatro days of Cinco
de Mayo"! The party starts on Friday and goes non stop until Monday,
doncha dare miss it! The ladies are hot, the beer is cold and SPB rocks
the patio, what are ya waitin fer? |
| April
14, 2003 - SPB rocks the Gulf Coast once again! We started the day on
Saturday in Deer Park, home of the Totally Texas Festival and had a blast
with John Prince from Mix 96.5, Moe Mata and the guys and gals from
Vintage and The Rhythm Kings. After that show, we headed south to Dukes
Original Roadhouse, NASA Rd 1 and I-45 South. We set up on the patio on an
elevated stage, but we felt kinda like 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound
bag! I had a space about 12 inches in diameter to stand in and felt like I
was in timeout all night long. Luckily, I didn't trip or knock anything
over, thanks to Sheriff and his staff at Dukes for making us feel welcome.
This a great venue for live music, a huge patio, great food and cold
libations. Whether you're in Clear Lake or returning from the Tiny Island,
make sure Duke's is on your itinerary. Sunday we headed south in the other
direction to Sam's Boat at the Fountains for the final day of the weekend
long Crawfish Festival. AH-EEEEE., dems good mudbugs! SPB rocked the casa
with BJ the DJ, who provided the perfect mix of Sunday Afternoon
Grooviness. Special thanks to Martin and the great folks at Sam's Boat and
Lonnie at Houston Bands for setting things up. Next Stop, the annual
Scholl Forrest Spring Fling! |
| March
31, 2003 - What a weekend! We had a great time at the French
Quarter Market Grill with our hosts Janice and Fred Foteh; even though
it was a bit nippy outside, we kept the party going with friends Steve and
Adrianna, Jesse, Steph and Reba, Sue-Baby, Don from SITI and Shelby the
Bubble Girl (she's going to be in our next video!) Join us at Sams
Boat in Sugarland this Thursday night as we kick it on the patio and
again this Saturday night at the Elbow Room.
This will be a new venue for us, so let's show 'em how we do it, SPB
style. For those that may be wondering, Marco is in the hizouse and livin
large! |
| March
21, 2003 - The new year has been like a blur! SPB rocked the house
at Sullivans in March, and just this week played a Happy Hour at Sam's
Boat in Sugarland with The New
Mix 96.5 and Roula Christie
from the Roula and Ryan
morning show. You can join Roula every Wednesday at Sam's for great live
music (SPB will be back there soon), spicy crawfish and great drink
specials. We'll finish up the month at Mike's Place
in Jersey Village and the French
Quarter Market Grill in Copperfield, helping them to celebrate another
great year of Cajun food and fun. Come on out now, ya hear? |
| Happy
New Year - We look forward to another year of good fun, good music and good
friends. Thanks to all of you for your support. |
| December
2002 - So little time, so much going on! First, a shoutout to our friends at Atlas Comfort Systems, Scholl Forest
Industries, KB Homes, Dr Larry and the staff at ROPA, Mission
Constructors, JL and Company and Greenstar Entertainment. Without you, there would be no us, so thanks for
the support and memories, As I write this, we are rushing off to Spring to party on New
Years Eve with the great folks at Augusta
Pines Country Club, This
should be some party, I'll give the rundown next time we chat. Look for some original
material from SPB in 2003, as well as new covers and lots of great gigs and parties and a
few other surprises. We will be playing a new venue on Sat Jan 4 at Diamond Jim Brady's Icehouse, located on the northwest side at Mills and Perry
Road. For those uninformed, Jim is one of the horn players in Commercial Art, the mega-talented group that hold forth at Sullivans Steakhouse, as well as other see and be seen venues about
H-town. |
| June
2002 - Spare Parts rocked the Patio down at Sam's Boat in The Fountains in Stafford On June 6th. Thanks to
all of you who made it out to support us. We had a great time and hope to be back at
that venue soon. A Big thank you to JJ Tannert for asking us to play the annual pool soiree for those swanky apartments
she manages. Hey JJ, you really know how to throw a party. It was great to see
Rob Jacobs, guitar man of the band "Just Got Lucky", his lovely wife Lisa
along with friends Don & Leann. Hats off to KB Homes and a big thank you for asking us to play the company celebration. You
folks really know how to kick your heals up. You have such a multi-talented group of
employees who just happen to also be musicians! It was a blast playing with all of
you. |

10th 2002 - So far it has been one great party after the next. We were in
Humble for Mulligans Birthday
Bash on Jan 23rd, what a night
that was! Lots of of the Mulligans faithful were in attendance to wish JB and Colleen
Happy Sixth Birthday. Funny how those four little words "Free Drinks Till 8" get people so excited! Last weekend we joined the Epilepsy Foundation for their annual Mardi Gras Night charity
fundraiser and got to meet the Voice of the Houston Astros, Milo Hamilton, up close and personal. Well, one of us anyway. Seems Milo was so
enchanted with the Linda the
Love Goddess he forgot who we
were. So for a few hours we were just Linda and the Boys, but when Milo says it it sounds
so much more impressive. The real cherry on top of the cake came last night at the Oz Bar in the Willowbrook area. We joined the Sofa Kings, the Peckerwood
Homeboys and Third Coast for the annual Aquarians Celebration. Ken and Diane Fontenot throw this bash every year, and this party was
hotter than the proverbial fox in the pepper patch. To top that, this year is Ken's 50th
b-day and the Fontenots 25th wedding anniversary, so it was quite a special night inideed.
The Sofa Kings kicked things off with a rousing set of classic rock and roll and honky
tonk, followed by the Homeboys, currently on the "10 Years After Tour". Hard to
believe its been so long since Corky, Denise and the guys have played together, but it was
just like old times. SPB rocked the house with a scorching set of old and new rock, and
Third Coast capped the night with a slick set of country rock. Special thanks and
shoutouts to the staff at the Oz Bar, the Lovely Yvonne, Ernesto, Half-Fast Pat Glass,
Dave "I'm a Rockstar Now", Tommy Tiller for above and beyond performances,
Russell the Muscle, Dallas "SoundTech" Foster, Jeff and Libby, Mike "Wanna
see my Guitar?" and Kathy the Soundbabe, Bob Nelson, Darrell Henley and all the
performers, as well as Big John
Hammond and our man on Bass, Mighty Marco. To those who partied with us, you know by now that
the party never ends, it just changes venues. Join us at Mikes Ultimate on Feb 22 and
we'll pick up where we left off...

January
15th 2002 - The new year is upon us, and it is going to be a great one! We
had a blast over the Christmas holidays with our friends at the Woodlands Operating
Company and the Northwest Surgical Center, and for the third year in a row, Atlas Comfort
Systems. We ended 2001 with a bash at the Ramada Plaza and about 300 of our closest
friends, what an interesting soiree that turned into. The words "Open Bar at 7
PM" and "Room Included" just naturally go together! This group gave
new meaning to the term "table dance"...We were joined on stage by Brett from
the BlackJack Country Band, and the man has some pipes, let me tell ya.
We'll be playing this weekend at Mike's Place in relatively Crime Free Jersey Village, and
next Wednesday night Jan 23rd we will be at Mulligans in Humble for their Sixth
Anniversary Bash. February finds us at the Oz Bar on the 9th with special guests the
PW Homeboys, The Sofa Kings and 3rd Coast. Don't miss this show, the house
will be packed and the roof is comin' off! |
| September
26, 2001 - It's very hard for me to write about how great things are with
Spare Parts and not think about the sacrifice of so many innocent lives and the courage
that is being displayed on a round the clock basis in New York, Washington and
Pennsylvania. Our little band seems so insignificant when considering how quickly the
world is changing around us. Our hearts go out to the victims, survivors and those left
behind. Our support and continued prayers go out to those clearing the remains and
searching for any signs of life. Tragedies of this magnitude make us all feel very small,
and reminds us of the frailty and uncertainty of our existence. In the spirit that forged
our nation, life will go on, we will rebuild, our government will bring the killers to
justice. There can be no place for terrorism on this earth, to that end we must strive. We will be playing at Mikes Place this Friday, 09/28
and next Friday, 10/05. Later in the month we will once again be partying with the great
folks at Scholl Forest Industries on 10/25, and Mulligans in Humble is on the calendar for
10/26. Hug someone you love today, you may not get the chance tomorrow!

June
25, 2001 - Where has the time gone? May was a blur, June is almost done.
Summer is here, and that means FESTIVALS! SPB played two in May, one Downtown at the Worlds
Greatest Hot Sauce Festival and the other in Galveston on Stewart Beach with The
Point, 106.9 FM. We made the trek down south on Memorial day weekend to play the Metaboloss
Gold Beach Blast. We made lots of new friends on the beach (Hello,
Ladies!), our special thanks go out to Pam Kehoe and Rick O'Brien from The Point,
as well as the coolest DJ in the biz, John Prince, for making it all happen. We also
managed to sneak out to Humble to play at Mulligans, east of US 59 on 1960. Mulligans is a
great place to kick back, take in the best of televised sports, drink a few brews, did I
mention the lovely waitresses? How about the food and live entertainment on the weekends,
as well as pool, darts and other indoor sports? It rarely gets better, except when
the SPB is in the house. We'll be back there before too long, keep checking that
calendar...
LINDAPALOOZA 2001 was a HUGE success, and if you missed it, shame on ya!
We started the evening with a sunset limo ride with friends of the band (shoutout to
SSSSSmokin, John and Bill, Amber and Kim, and the new and improved Sue-Baby), ending up
over at Mike's Place for the food and par-tee. It was one for the ages, and there are a
few parts of it I'm still a bit fuzzy about... Oh well, no one was arrested, the Hummer
was returned to it's rightful owner and the cow is back in the stall, so I guess we were
lucky. Check the Photo Gallery for pics, we should have them up shortly. Special
thanks to Barbara and Heidi at Mike's for making it special!! Last weekend found
us at the Daiquiri Factory, and what a rowdy bunch in that place! The Fabulous Seymour
jumped onstage and proceeded to redefine the word "direction" with some new
directions of his own. Coming up, look for us down south in Stafford at the Sports Resort
on July 14th and back at Mike's Place in Crime Free Jersey Village on July 27th. |
| April
26, 2001 - Once again we rocked the in lumberyard at the annual Scholl Forest
barbeque. These people know how to party! It is a great feeling to play for a
crowd who appreciates a good show, gets up and dances like nobody's watchin'. Thanks
to Ward Scholl and company for inviting us to play for them. Special thanks to Ashley for
all the hospitatilty, shout out to Amber for the setup, Country Chris, Kristine and Surf
Sound and Lighting (Look At Leon!) for making it all sound soooo groovy. |
| April
21, 2001 - Thanks to radio personality (Oldies 107.5) and friend, John Prince
who invited us to play at the Deer Park Festival. This was our sixth year to play
the event. John joined us on drums for a little SRV while John Hammond and the boys
sat out for a much needed rest. We had a great time and the weather was great!! |
| April
20, 2001 - We kicked up our heals once again at Paesano's. Spare Parts
has landed a house gig with the downtown club. It was great to see Former Houston
Rockets Robert Reed & Sleepy Floyd in the house! You never know who you might
see at Paesano's, it is a happenin' place. Pete & Helen (Linda's Bro & Sis in law)
even came out with a crowd from Dillard & Assoc. Big John Hammond has once again
joined us on drums. He is the King of the nonstop dance party. We luv ya John!
|
| March
30, 2001 - It was a cool afternoon in the park, as Spare Parts played Funday
In The Park. Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters opened the show with a hot set of R
& B and rockin' soul. Special thanks to all the great folks at Epic Special
Events and the sound crew, you guys are the BEST! Shoutout to good friend and devoted fan
Steve Johnson who drove all the way across town to Law Park to show the SPB colors. Way to
go, Steve! Look for SPB in April at Paesanos Lounge downtown, The Deer Park Festival and a
Private Party with Scholl Forest Industries. Also watch the calendar
for last minute additions. |
| March
06, 2001 - Spare Parts rocked the house at Paesanos Lounge Downtown last
weekend. The crowd was great, and the venue is one of Houston's new HotSpots. Check out
the Downtown Music Scene after dark, you'll see what I mean. Also, a shoutout to friends
SSSSSmokin Karen, John (aka Kamikaze Boy) and little Billy, Rob and Lisa, the lovely and
talented Jeanette and and boy-toy Donny; it just wouldn't be rock and roll without them.
Our fans are the best and even pay to park just to see the SPB! We'll be back at Paesanos
in April, special thanks to Malcolm and all the staff. We can't
wait to bring the non-stop dance party back! Spare Parts has a new drummer, Andy
Rodgers. He's a New York boy, but his muscular style fits in perfectly with SPB.
Check out the show this weekend on the deck at the Daiquiri Factory, Richmond and Chimney
Rock. We'll be doing the Rock show with new tunes and special surprises. The Daiquiri
Factory has great food, fruity drinks and is always the place to see and be seen. Lovely
ladies everywhere, whatchawaitinfer? |
January 3, 2001- We made through the Holidays and
the New Year. Special thanks to our friends at Coast Energy, Atlas Comfort
Systems, Rogers and Phillips and the Woodlands Operating Corporation
for making this December very Merry indeed. If you are a prospective bride or know one, be
sure to attend the Bridal Extravaganza at the George Brown Convention CenterJanuary 6th
and 7th . There will be over 600 companies and 900 Display Showcases for all your bridal
needs. Oh, Spare Parts will be there too (we LOOOOOVE to play weddings!) For more details visit their website and vist us at Booth
1407. It's hard to believe, but it's been a year with the current players Marco
Yepez and Tom Tiller. We've had a lot of fun along the way and made a lot of new
friends. Thanks to all our supporters for making it happen. Also, special thanks to Dawn
Jones at Dusk to Dawn Photography for the new group pics and Duane Gibson for all his
photography work. They make us look great and we really appreciate it. Major props go out
to Surf Sound and Lighting, saving the day for at the Scholl Forrest Halloween Bash. When
regular soundman John Hammond went down, Terry Davidson and crew stepped in and did a
superb job. Be sure to visit the Oz Bar, 1960 West and
Perry Road on January 26. Spare Parts will be rockin' the casa as always! |
| December
2000 - Happy Holidays to all our friends and our sincere thanks
for your continued support. You can see by our calendar that most of
our December dates are private parties. Look for our next public engagement on
December 30th at Studio 54. This is a new venue for us and it would be great to
party with all our friends to celebrate the end of the year 2000. There is a stage inside
and out, so even if the weather turns ugly, you won't waste a trip out to Kemah to see us.
Unfortunately, this will be Paul's last gig with Spare Parts. He has decided to
devote more time to his family, education and career. He definitely has a full plate,
wouldn't you say? We will definitely miss him. He is such a versatile drummer and a
great guy. |
| October
26-29 - It was a busy weekend for Spare Parts. Thanks to Scholl Forest
for inviting us to play at their Halloween Bash on the 26th. We had a great time.
We were at Pennison's on Friday night. On Saturday we played for the U of H
Homecoming tailgate parties. We had lots of fun. Go Cougars!!!! On Sunday, it
was a soggy Funday in The Park in Clear Lake. Yes it rained on us, but the band
played on. |
| October
9th - It never fails! Everytime Spare Parts books a gig in Kemah, Nature
decides to have her way. Whether it is a hurricane, monsoon or frigid temps, some freaky
natural occurrence always pops up! That's OK, we will re-schedule the Blue Marlin show and
pray for better weather. Meanwhile, we are set to play Mike's Place in Crime Free Jersey
Village this weekend. Come out and meet the friendly folks at Mike's - drink and food
specials, big screen TV and trivia, pool and darts, what's not to like? |
September 27th - Check out the additions to our Home page. We now have an MP3 file for download! This is our Party Demo. Special Thanks to Ernie Wells at
Eighth Note Productions in Belaire for all the help and guidance he has given us through
the years. Yer tha Bomb, Dude!! In other news, Mike and Linda along with Just Got Lucky
guitarist Rob Jacobs played at the UH - Army game at Robertson Stadium a few weeks back.
It looks like they want the entire band for another show. Watch this space for more news
on last minute shows. Did we mention parties? Spare Parts would love to play at your next
get together, e-mail us for details. We know
a few of you will be having Christmas and New Years Eve parties soon, our calendar is
filling up fast so get in touch with us soon! |
| September
15& 16th Spare Parts was back at Mike's Place. It was great
to see Eisenhower HS Alumni, Mark Smith, Andy Boyd & Howard Camp at the gig.
Hopefully we can get some more alumni to come out and party with us in the future.
Look for us again at Mike's Place on October 13th & 14th. |
| September
8th The rain poured down on us at the Blue Marlin Yacht Club.
Mike and John had just gotten everything set up when the drought we have been plagued with
decided to end !! It poured and Spare Parts never made it to the stage.
Special thanks to Gina DaVita & ET for making the long trip out to see us. We
have been rescheduled for Sunday, the 8th of October from 3:00-7:00.
"Let the Sun Shine" This club will be a great venue !! |
| August
25th- After an absence of a couple of months, Spare Parts partied at
the Hideaway on Dunvale. Thanks to all our friends who ventured outside of our usual
Northwest side gigs for this one. The Hideaway is a nice venue and we always enjoy
playing there |
| August
11 & 12- Mike's Ultimate was the venue this weekend. We had a
great time. It was great to see "Wam Bam Thank You Pam" and company.
They stuck with us on Friday night from the first set and stayed to close
down the bar. We love it when that happens !!! Look for us on the 19th at the
Daiquiri Factory on Richmond Ave. |
| ANNOUNCEMENT
Congratulations to Paul & Heidi Bawa. Baby Bawa has been born and he is a
beautiful baby boy. We wish them all the best. If Paul looks a little
"beat" (in the tired sense) while he is playing the drums, you'll know why
!! |
| July
23, 2000- Spare Parts on the patio at the Daiquiri Factory. We got a
little damp and played to a great crowd. It was great to see old friends in the
audience, Corky & Alice Tubb along with Dallas Foster, who was in town to celebrate
his birthday. Paul was back on drums. No baby yet, but the Doc says that the
baby should be here this week. |
| July
14, 2000 - It was a hot one Friday night at the Daiquiri Factory, Mark Key
was in the house. We got a surprise visit from Mark who was in town all the
way from North Carolina (or is it South?). Of course we didn't let him just sit and
watch. Mark jumped on stage and sang "Push", "Vehicle",
"Shimmer" and broke out into his Reverend Jim personna with a little
"Roadhouse". Current soundman and former Spare Parts drummer, John Hammond
sat in on the action. It was great. There was also allot of action out there
on the dance floor. The crowd was great! Check us out at the Daiquiri Factory again
on Sunday, July 23 from 4:00-8:00. Special thanks to Tracy Wilson for
lending us his great talent and filling in for Paul. We are still waiting for Baby
Bawa to arrive. I know Heidi and Paul are ready for this eventful day! |
| July
7 & 8, 2000 - This weekend at Mike's Ultimate was great. Thanks to
all our friends who came out in support. A great time was had by all. Former
Keyboard and vocalist, David Gibson came out to see us and of course came up and jammed on
a couple of tunes. Tracy Wilson (From the local band ARRIVAL) filled in this weekend
on drums, while Paul and Heidi Bawa await the arrival of their 1st baby due any day now.
He will join us next weekend too. Tracy is one slammin drummer! |
| July
4, 2000 - The Daiquiris were flowing and the crawfish were plentiful on the
patio at the Daiquiri Factory. Spare Parts Unplugged played for a small but
appreciative crowd. Tony Self (Spare Parts Alumni, guitarist extraordinaire) joined
us for this gig. It was too cool having the ultimate guitar guru play with the
ultimate bass man, Marco. For those of you who have not heard Tony play, he is the
real deal. He has added another notch in his musical belt and is singing too; and of
course he has a great voice. |
| June,2000

April 2000 - Spare Parts spent the afternoon in Deer Park at the Totally
Texas Festival 2000. The weather was beautiful and the festival rocked with the sounds of Aubrey
Dunham and the Party Machine, Roadhouse ( a great alt rock band,
check them out at any of the Sherlock's Pubs) and yours truly, Spare Parts. Special
thanks to John Prince, our best friend in show business,
and his crew for making it all sound so sweet. We Luv Ya, Man! This
weekend, April 22, don't miss the fun at Funday In The Park, Schwartz
Park located at 8203 Vogue. Funday is a free traveling family festival that takes place in
a different city park every weekend, brought to you by the City of Houston and our good
friends at Epic Special Events. It's Free, so wutz yer excuse? |
| 23
March 2000 - Mike's Place was the scene for the St Patty's Day Blowout. We
had a great time with the crew from Oceaneering, nice dance moves there,
guys! Also, a shout out to our friends at Coast Energy, we had a blast
with them at Massas Restaurant downtown.
Great seafood, steaks and atmosphere, I would highly recommend it! I would also recommend
the Hideaway this Saturday
3/25. We will be there at Richmond and Dunvale, the beer is cold, DON'T MISS IT! |
| 01
February 2000 - Ya never know who you'll run into in clubland. Friday night
at the Hideaway, old friend Clifton Smith jumped up to play drums on the
Rick James workout "Mary Jane". What we didn't know is that Clifton
and Marco are childhood buds.Small world indeed... Saturday night at the
Thirsty Turtle Dave "Hairstylin" Gibson joined us for a little
doot doot doot, doot ta doot doo (otherwise known as Semi Charmed Life). Great to see so
many friends out, check out the Hideaway on
Dunvale this month if you haven't already. Great food and COLD BEAH! |

January 2000 - "Marky in tha House" at Westfields
By The Railroad means only one thing - Mark Key onstage again with Spare
Parts! In town for a day or two, Mark found time in his schedule to fit us in (we
like it tight, baby!). When sound tech extraordinaire John Hammond jumped
on stage for a scorching version of the Ides of March nugget, "Vehicle" and a
near religious rendition of "Roadhouse Blues", well it was just like old times.
It just goes to show once a Spare Part, you're in for life. You can can
check out any time you like, but you can never leave. Hmmm, sounds like a song... Special
howdies go to Dave the Auto Doc and his wife, the lovely and talented Denise, we love you
guys (GO VIKES!). We also love the friendly staff at Westfields, we should be out there
again in March. So much scotch, so little time.... Speaking of good
times, check out this weekend's show at Mike's Place, on Jones Road just north of US 290. Never
Bossy Barbara will be behind the bar, Kathy and Dana
will take care of you, the kitchen will be serving up One Dolla Cheeseburgers, IT'S
ALL GOOD! |
04
January 2000 - We made it into the New Year with nary a glitch with the great
folks down in the New Territory in Sugarland. Special thanks to Mark Johnson
and Liz Pringle, we had a blast and we know the guests did also. We hope
to see you folks again real soon, maybe in Spring 2K. Be sure to check us out in clubland
this month, Westfileds by the Railroad and both Mike's Place and Mike's Ultimate. New
songs this month too! |
| 01
December 99 - We have finally done it, the new lineup is complete! We have
been fortunate enough to pick up two really great players, Tom Tiller on
keyboards and Paul (Big Daddy) Bawa on drums. Tom is a veteran of many
local bands including Velocity, Color Blind and most recently, Kingfish. A superb pianist,
Tom lends an air of sophistication to any gathering (he also dresses up our sound
immensely). Paul Bawa is our new drummer and, lordy, the boy can play! Special thanks to
our sound tech extraordinaire, John "The Steamer" Hammond,
for filling in for Paul at Westfields and at the Dome. We love ya, man, you're the best!
We have been hard at work (yes, we actually REHEARSE now) getting ready for the party
season, and also putting together new tunes (Melissa Etheridge, Santanna, Cher and
Jennifer Lopez) and classics (Journey and Tom Petty).
There is only one chance to catch us live in December, this Friday Dec 3rd at the Thirsty
Turtle, Barker Cypress at Little York. All the other gigs we have in Dec are private
affairs, so doncha' miss it! |
| 22
November 99 - Saturday night was great at Westfield's By The Railroad, out on
the North side of town. They have a great Happy Hour on Fridays, and food and drink
specials all the time, including $1.50 Train Shots. The kitchen is open for lunch and
stays that way until late, so stop by for a bite. We'll be playing there again in early
January; it's a great place to hang out and party. Shout out to Traci the
Internet Hottie and Candice and Smokin' Karen; so many lovely ladies, so little time!
We also played at a new club out on Little York and Hwy 6, the Yorkshire Pub. This place
is really spacious on the inside, with lotsa pool tables and big screen TV's, not to
mention a vast array of fine imported beverages. Theres also a HUGE dance floor for all
who want to shake it, we'll be back there on January 1st. Start the millenium
right with Spare Parts! You know you want to! JUST DO IT! |
| 10
November 99 - Wow, what a weekend! We played 2 shows at Mike's Place
and squeezed in an appearance at the Astrodome! Those Monster Trucks rock and roll over
everything; special thanks to Dan Allen at Pace Motor Sports, the coolest guy in show biz
and our friends at Surf Sound and Lighting for making us sound great once again!. Check out our expanded Photo Gallery; click on
the link to More Photos. This is the area where we will post your photos of
the band and yourselves doing whatever comes naturally! Check out the pics of the
Halloween Party at The Hideaway,
this was one drunken soirée! |

October 99 - It was Spare Parts, not the Tony Vega Band, that rocked
the house at The Hideaway, Richmond and
Dunvale. We'll be there again in costume for the big Halloween Bash on Oct 30. Dave Gibson
of Primal Funkshun will be on keys and wearing who know's what on his head. Thanks once
again to Bill and John for introducing Linda to her newest and bestest friend. We call him
Buzzy and he just dances round and round! Only one problem guys, those little AA's run out
out of juice so quick! Oh, Karen, how's your penmanship? IT'S S-S-SMOKIN' !
|
| 8-10
October 99 - We have a new bass player, Marco Yepez from the band
Kingfish. Boys and girls, this guy is a playah! The funk abounds when
Marco is on the job, we are certainly lucky to have landed him. We played 3 great shows
this weekend, at the Thirsty Turtle on Friday, The Daiquiri Factory on Sat (we finally
made it to Richmond Avenue!) and Funday In The Park on Sunday, all to rave reviews.
Special thanks to our friends Karen, John, Bill and Candace, and don't forget the 5050 band, Russell the Love Muscle and Cissy, Gina and
Devon too. See us this weekend at The Hideaway,
Richmond and Dunvale, and again for the big Halloween Bash on Oct 30! |
